Don-crissti has announced the release of Zen-mini which is a Gnome based version of Minime. The main goals of the 2008.0 release were stability, simplicity and speed while keeping the ISO as small as possible. You can download the ISO from here: http://files.filefront.com/zen20080miniiso/;11915547;/fileinfo.html or you can use a torrent located here: http://linuxtracker.org/index.php?page=torrent-details&id=759478e68059443e34ac19ccd016cbfa00c000c1 In the event you guys have troubles booting after install vampirefo has built an additional initrd.img you can use and hopefully get rid of the "kernel panic". Instructions are on your desktop.
On root's desktop you have Restore MBR - which is Redo MBR modified by vampirefo to work with Gnome We added a script in /etc/cron/weekly to clean your ~/.thumbnails weekly and a package called redo-xorg that will backup your working xorg.conf and if necessary, restore it. Usage: -to back it up: in terminal, as root, run: xorgbkp -to restore it: if you get "Unable to start Xorg" or the like, open a console, login as root and run: xorgredo
harryNID created two themes: ZEN-Dark and Zen-Light which is a modified ZEN-Dark. If you want to change from dark to light you have to go to System > Preferences > Appearance > Theme > Zen-Dark > Customize > Window Border and you have two choices: Zen-Dark and Zen-Light... GDM has also two variations: Zen-avio and ZenDark-avio (change them by running gdmsetup in a terminal)
The default settings for a new user have changed like this:
Nautilus preview has been disabled for all kind of files except images < 5MB. Default view in Nautilus: list (columns available: name, size, type) Text-based location bar for Nautilus Also GEdit "create backup copy" feature has been disabled. Default number of desktops: 2 Default number of panels: 1 (bottom) Default applets on the panel: Show Desktop, GCC, Synaptic, PCC Classic start menu style
You can change all of the above for your current user by using File Management (for Nautilus stuff) , Edit > Preferences (for GEdit) Edit > Current Profile (for Terminal) and interacting with the panel (right click > add, remove etc) If you want to perform a global reset to Gnome factory defaults you must delete the hidden directory /etc/skel/.gconf before creating new users. There is one bug/limitation: the Workspace Switcher will migrate towards the center of the panel after you install and/or switch resolution. I was unable to find a workaround for this issue. Apparently it is a known panel limitation which is supposed to be fixed in 2.24 |
